About Skis
My name is Steve Kopitz and I am the owner of Skis.com. I have been skiing for over 43 years now (I'm 49) and it is and always has been my passion. When I was a teenager I saw others dream of becoming rich or famous while all I wanted was to own and run ski shop. It took some time (including a stint in financial planning at American Express) but I finally reached my goal. In 1990 I opened my very first store with only me, my wife, and my cousin running the entire thing, along with my two children who enjoyed running around in the backroom and generally wrecking havoc. I have now been in the sports equipment business for 17 years selling skis and snowboards along with other sports gear, but my true love lies in deep powder and steep runs. My company currently owns and operates 10 retail stores and 7 web sites, including Skis.com. We employ about 150 people who are just as committed to sports as I am. I personally buy all the ski equipment for my company, but not the clothing considering I am partially color blind which interferes with my ability to match jackets with pants or anything else for that matter. So instead I have Ann, my softgoods buyer with an impeccable fashion sense and the ability to see the color purple. I also started out doing the snowboard buying, but ended up giving that category to a trusted and slightly younger buyer named Andy. The three of us work together to bring you the best selection for your skiing and snowboarding needs.
